The AGM - Frequently Ask Questions
What is it?It is customary for most clubs and societies to have a meeting once a year where elections are held for officers who will run the organisation for the forthcoming year, reports are given by those people on the previous year's activities and where plans, policies and accounts can be discussed and voted upon.
Must we attend?
Attendance is not compulsory but we hope to see as many teams represented as we can, so that decisions made can be more democratic. The Agenda will give you an idea of things to be discussed. If you can attend it’s useful if you are in a team sweatshirt or badge as it helps put a face to a team name. Phil for example will always wear some discrete item of pink representing Bunnies from Hell Morris.
When is it?
It is always held in November, normally on the 3rd or 4th Sunday, in the morning.
Does the Squire have to attend?
Any member can represent your side so long as they have some authority to attend from your team. (Usually most members are only too happy for you to attend!)
Can we vote?
Each team present is allocated one vote. It may be more pleasant for two members of a side to attend, but between them they only carry one vote. Individual members are not entitled to vote at an AGM although their views are heard. (See constitution).
How do we find out about it?
There are emails sent prior to the AGM and the date and venue are publicised on this Website.
What if we cannot attend?
There is the usual AGM courtesy of sending your apologies to the secretary. This also helps with catering numbers, and is a good opportunity for you to respond to any items on the AGM Agenda by email to ...
OM Secretary - Kate Waller: secretary@open-morris.org
What are the perks of attending?
The list is endless: good lunch, usually freezing cold hall (It is in November!), superb company and a chance for your team to discuss formally or informally where the organisation is going. We feel we are the most approachable and certainly the fastest growing Morris organisation. With your help it can only get better.
As an added attraction we - usually - enable the AGM host side to run a dance workshop on the day before to make the journey more worthwhile.
And a final plea that helps the officers:
As your new team stabilises please keep us up to date of any changes in you 'management' as it helps the flow out of information.
